Peak Design announced a new Travel Tripod on Kickstarter today and we were lucky enough to get our hands on a prototype prior to launch.
You probably know Peak Design for their backpacks, but now they’ve gone into tripods too, as evidenced from this campaign on Kickstarter.As the page explains, Peak Design has reworked the geometry of their tripod legs so they fold down closer to the center column, making for a much smaller tripod.

The Peak Design Travel Tripod enters Kickstarter today and goes through July, with two options of the tripod available: carbon fiber for MSRP $599.95 and aluminum for MSRP $349.95.
The Ultralight Conversion Kit is available for $30 and converts your Peak Design Tripod into a shorter, but significantly lighter tripod that’s suitable for tabletop and hiking usage. The stem of the ball head connects down the to the tripod legs (in this case directly to the center column) while the locking mechanism is all contained in the top part of the head.
